The reason: stamp loose (crooked position)
This phenomenon can have many faces. That's why we've shown you several real-life manifestations here. However, the cause is usually the same:
The upper stamp has become loose (on the button machine type 900) or the Flexi holder on the Flexi machine. This then leads to the upper and lower stamps no longer meeting 100% perfectly straight, but slightly crooked. And then the upper part, paper, foil and lower part can no longer be pressed together properly.
It may also be that it is not the upper stamp or the flexi holder that has come loose, but one of the two lower stamps. Tightening the screws helps here too!
It sounds banal, but it is actually the case that this is the solution in 90% of cases in which this phenomenon occurs. For the other 10%, we have another trick...
Step 1: Tighten the screws!
For Flexi, tighten the screw on the Flexi holder (first picture on the left), for Type 900, tighten the screw on the upper stamp! (second picture).
For Type 900, this is more difficult because you can't take the stamps out. That's why there are holes in the base plate. If you put the swivel plate sideways, you can reach the screw with a long Allen key. Or with a short Allen key without going through the base plate. Do it in the way that is easier for you.
Step 2: Turn the mounting pin
If none of that helps, we'll have to bring out the big guns. Basically, you now repeat step 1 again. So, take the screw on the upper stamp (on type 900) or the Flexi mount (on Flexi) again. However, you now LOOSEN the screw a little. Then take a pair of pliers and turn the mounting pin 180 degrees. The mounting pin is the one that sits on the bridge and has a small spring wound around it.
Then tighten the screw again. It can happen that the mounting pin wants to turn again. We have to prevent this by taking a pair of pliers and holding the mounting pin in position while you tighten the screw. To be honest, this is more something for people with good hands. In the photo on the right you can see that it's not that easy for one person to do it alone. It's best to get help with this.
